Starting a new Aquarium would be a challenging work, most people start with a small to medium aquarium so that they can place it on a desktop or kitchen. Normally these are 5, 10, 15 or 20 gallons fish tank, and they can house something from 3 to 20 fish accordingly.
This is a combination list of fish I believe would be great for aquarium starter:
Aquarium Size (gallons) | Fish combination |
5 | 3 guppies or 1 betta or 2 platies |
10 | 3 guppies and 6 neon tetras or 2 platies and 6 neon |
15 | 5 guppies and 12 neon or 2 platies, 3 guppies and 6 neon |
20 | 5 guppies and 20 neon or 4 platies and 20 neon |
Of course, these combinations are not perfect and very opinionated, so you’ll soon find out your combination.
In general, the rule is:
- to have 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of water
- keep similar fish together (size, water parameters…)
- keep 2 to 3 species of fish only
